Shameful Admissions

      October is underway.
      I am unprepared.
I am definitely not going to get “Inferno” done before 10/15, which means when NaNo 2013 begins, I will begin it with my WIP incompleted. And I am ashamed.
Yes, I have been writing. 1000s of words about things that I cannot publish, nor can I even post here. But I need “Inferno” to be done. Over with. Finito. Alas, it won’t be until December 2013 at the soonest. Unless, by some miracle I *do* write 50,000 words in the next ten days.
      *sigh*
Anyway – I have been trying desperately to choose what I am going to do for NaNo 2013 this year, because I realize now that it will end up being a *real* part of my life and portfolio and I don’t want to hate it!
      WAAAH!
      Help me, Rhonda!
Sorry for calling you Rhonda. Is Maynard better?
      But seriously, help me!

NaNoWriMo 2013

NaNoWriMo 2013

I do not have a project for NaNo 2013 yet.
      WHAAAAAAAAT?
It is already September. SEPTEMBER! And yes, I have not yet finished the first draft of “Inferno” (I’m closer, I swear, but it is just… not flowing. Because I am focused on non-publishable stuff… oy vey!). I am making it a goal to try and finish by October 15th so that I can have two weeks to really plot out my next project.
The biggest problem? Deciding what I want to pursue next. Because if you have looked at my WIP page here, I’ve got like 10 or more projects in various stages of completion. And that isn’t even really close to the whole number of things I am interested in writing at some point.
There’s a fantasy novel, a one-off, brewing in my brain. There’s a modern day romantic comedy story. There is also a “soft” sci-fi type novel that I sort of love… at least, in theory… and I want to write about that character as well.
ARRRGH! How do you decide? I guess I’ll just wait until I get through “Inferno” and see what appeals most come October 31st… of course, that’s how I ended up with “Incandescence” and “Inferno” in the first place.
What do you think? Which of those (really vague) projects would you like to see me tackle?

Over.

Over.

Yeah, Camp NaNo 2013 is over.
I “won”, barely, and really – to be totally honest – I may have estimated a teensy-weensy bit high when I was counting my hand-written pages from the trip. There was just no time to transcribe them all, plus deal with the move and unpacking/repacking/storing, my sick husband, a teething puppy, and all matter of financial drama!
Anyway – this is a short note to complete my Camp NaNo month.
      Its over.
      Its over… until November! YAY!

Like a Boss!

Like a Boss!

Today, magically and with no real concept of how it happened… I kicked NaNo’s ass.
      Booyah!
I think I topped out at just shy of 3k for the day, which considering how busy work was and how little I *felt* like I was getting done, is pretty much a miracle.
Alas, my cabin is pretty much dead.
Only three of us have posted word counts at all – one updated last on 7/1 and the other on 7/3. I just overtook SJ (who had 8k on 7/3) as top of the cabin! Muahaha…hah…hollow victory.
Anyway – off to see what tomorrow will bring.

Day 9

Day 9

      Ugh.
      I survived Day Nine, barely.
I didn’t make my goal for the day (2000) and I didn’t complete enough to get back on-track. I’m a couple hundred shy and I just can’t care tonight. Ever had a night like that?
Work was a bitch (specifically, some uppity bitch was a bitch) and I am oh-so-fed up that I can’t even enjoy writing a fun confrontation scene between Isaac and Alexander’s new squeeze. Muahaha!
Anyway – I’m sitting at 6800 words for July. I have a long way to go to finish “Inferno” and if I’m lucky and dedicated, I’ll make it!

Love & Rainbows,
P.P.

“No Time Fer Talkin’…

"No Time Fer Talkin'...

..let’s get to the action!”

That was one of the voicesets in the 2002 version of Neverwinter Nights, a PC game. She was so cute – often used by halflings, rogues, and bards.
Anyway – Its nearly 11 and after the day I’ve had, its no surprise I’ve added 2 words to my book. So… off to the races I go!
Will update tomorrow if not again tonight.

The More You Know…

The More You Know...

      Did you know…

  • …a castrated (male) pig is called a Barrow?
  • …a tumulus (or tumuli) is a mound of earth or stone raised over a grave?
  • …juvenile turtles are generally quite carnivorous as protein is essential to their development?
  • …there is a section of the Gobi called the Nemegt Formation and it is a vast trove of fossils?
  • …there is a group of sauropod dinosaurs named “Titanosaur” after the Greek Titans. Because they’re, like, big. BIG.

Ah, the things you learn while randomly researching things. It all started with a burial scene, which led to my looking up how deep, historically, graves were dug. That lead to cairns and barrows, which lead to tumuli, and then – how random is this? – to turtles, the Nemegt Formation, and various dinosaurs I’ve never heard about but now TOTALLY WANT TO READ ABOUT! *ahem*
      Research is awesome.
The internet, no matter how I may curse its distracting properties (Facebook, Tumblr, IMDB, Wikipediae, I am looking at you), is freaking amazing.
Sometimes I think our Grandparents’ heads would explode if they had access to all this?
I wanted to write more, but Jack just turned the fan off me and toward the bed (that dirty bastard) so alas, I’m taking my hot, steamy butt to bed.

Love & Rainbows,
P.P.

Family Day!

Family Day!

I have not written a single word today.
But we have a lovely day in the hot sun with Jack’s Dad, stepmom, aunts, cousin, cousin’s husband, cousin’s husband’s brother (also, Jack’s BFF), their sister & mom, a couple of random friends of cousin & husband…
Its still early (ish) and Jack has some studying to get done, so I have time. Whee!
Oh, hey! I was clicking through some FB stuff and saw this:

tumblr_lykntnCcde1qbvl57o1_500

I imagine that could almost be Hannah – if only her hair was a little shorter and darker. But still – watching that on-coming storm, her hair whipping in the wind… Yeah. I dug it. I could not find the official artist, but I did a Google Image search and I believe its from a forthcoming movie with Jessica Chastain.

//Edit: 11:53 – I made it with a dozen or so words to spare. Whee!\\

Frantic Friday the Fifth!

Frantic Friday the Fifth!

Friday the Fifth of July was, as today’s title announces – frantic.
I’m not sure why. Slept in, I guess, unintentionally, and then work and before I knew it – it was 11:50 and I was racing to post a post to keep up with my everyday-during-Camp updates.
I wrote about 1400 words today – which puts me back on track for my 25k goal. I know, I know, 25k isn’t much for someone who has done closer to 80k during November, but right now I’m struggling between Jack and work and preparing for the move (plus, DOING the move)… so 25k seems attainable.
      I’m cool with that.
      Today I’m on track.
Tomorrow we have a picnic with Jack’s family and who knows how that’ll go. Hope I don’t oversleep again. *sigh*

Love & Rainbows,
P.P.

Fireworks & Sparklers!

Fireworks & Sparklers!

      Happy Birthday, America!
      Happy-finally-got-caught-up-to-goal Penelope!
Yeah, it was a long, frustrating night at work… got stuck doing busy work to clean up after lazy co-workers who have utterly failed to do their own digital housekeeping for ohhh… about three years. There are still about 1900 tasks to resolve.
      *facepalm*
But this blog is a short & sweet ode to finally sneaking in my word count. Day Four of Camp and I’m on pace to finish a whole day early! Whee! Which would be nice, except I really need to be about 11 days ahead of pace because I’ll be flying to the West Coast and then driving back to the East Coast – by way of Las Vegas and since I’ll be behind the wheel, there will be little time for writing.
      I’ll plot in my head.
      Or something.
But yeah – most of the second half of the month will be eaten up by the “move”. Thus, I need to work hard this weekend to really push ahead. I want desperately to finish “Inferno” so I can get away from the series for a bit. Get back to some more fantastical fantasy. Whip out some wars and political maneuverings.
Which is not to say I don’t love the book – its just that I’ve been mired in it for SO long, procrastinating thanks to H-V being so (wonderful!) slow… I’m ready for a change. And the only writing that has really fired me up lately has been the stuff I’ve done for our bi-weekly gaming sessions!
At any rate, its just about bed time here.
      Tomorrow is another day.

Love & Rainbows,
P.P.
